A free-to-play service for SEGA classics has been announced for mobile called SEGA Forever. From the SG-1000 to the Dreamcast, classic SEGA titles will soon be available in the palm of your hand.
Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star II, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon, and Comix Zone are the first batch of games planned to be added to the service, with Virtua Tennis coming soon after. Games will be free-to-play with a $1.99 fee to remove adds, and contain leaderboards and controller support.
Chief Marketing Officer at SEGA, Mike Evans, also revealed that SEGA Forever could come to other platforms as well, including Nintendo Switch:
“The reason we chose Unity as middleware is it enables us to take this content to other platforms as well. So my first focus is mobile. It’s a huge project and what I really want to do is get mobile right. After this, there are options: we can look at desktop, Facebook, we could even take these games to consoles like Switch.”
SEGA Forever launches tomorrow, June 22nd, on iOS and Android devices.
